What to Do When Injuries Occur
Knocked-Out Tooth
Time is critical! Best reimplantation success within 30 minutes.
1. Find the tooth immediately
2. Hold by crown (white part), never root
3. Rinse gently with milk if dirty (don’t scrub)
4. Try to reimplant in socket if possible
5. If can’t reimplant, store in milk or cheek
6. Get to dentist immediately
Broken Tooth
1. Save any pieces
2. Rinse mouth with warm water
3. Apply pressure with gauze if bleeding
4. Cold compress on cheek
5. See dentist as soon as possible
Tooth Pushed Out of Position
1. Don’t try to force back into place
2. Apply cold compress
3. See dentist immediately
Lip or Tongue Cut
1. Apply pressure with clean cloth
2. If bleeding continues after 15 minutes, seek care
3. Check for tooth injury as well
